Excursions and organised social activities
![]() |
There is an extensive programme with social activities and excursions, which will be introduced during classes in terms of background information and vocabulary.
Daytrips:
Every Wednesday will take us to places and regions near or around Braunschweig. Visits to such places as Goslar, Salzgitter, Wolfenbüttel, Clausthal-Zellerfeld and Wolfsburg will include sightseeing walks and visits to museums. The afternoons will often be free for your own interests.
Weekend excursions:
2 days Berlin (courses A & B): In 1990, Berlin regained its status as the capital of Germany, and in the summer of 1999 it also became again the seat of the federal government. The excursion is to provide a first-hand impression of a city, which saw the Prussian kings and the German Kaiser rule, but is also a modern capital with the seat of a modern government and an exciting cultural life. We will visit Charlottenburg Palace, as well as the Reichstag and Federal Parliament buildings. There will, of course, also be enough time for you to explore the city with its museums, parks and Cafés on your own. We will supply you with information and ideas.
2 days Hamburg (courses A & C): Hamburg is known as a Hanseatic town with a long tradition. Today it has a significant role to play as a seaport not only for northern Germany but also for northern Europe. A sightseeing tour will take us through the old town along the Alster river, the famous quarter St. Pauli and, of course, also the port. A visit to the Rathaus (City Hall) will provide insights into the workings of the Senat, the government body of the city of Hamburg. A conducted boat tour along the Fleet canals and of the harbour will allow us to experience Hamburg and its former warehouses from the waterfront. The evening will be free for you to explore St. Pauli with its bars and public houses as well as the Hamburg student quarter. We will again supply information and make suggestions.
2 days Berlin (course D):In 1990, Berlin regained its status as the capital of Germany, and in the summer 1999 it also became again the seat of the federal government. There will also be enough time for you to explore the city with its museums, parks and Cafés on your own. We will supply you with information and ideas.
